Instructor (I1)

Duties
1. Instructors are expected to assist with their local vACC Training Departments where needed and
take an active role in ATC training.
2. Instructors may not have any specific task at any given time, but may be requested by The
Division or Region to undertake special projects from time to time in relation to training.
3. Instructors are expected to spend a minimum of 50 hours per year on Instructor duties to
maintain the function.
4. Instructors are expected to spend a minimum of 150 hours per year online as ATC either in
active or training mode, but not in observer or flying mode.
Requirements
1. Should have above average knowledge of VATSIM and VATSA rules and regulations.
2. Should have excellent knowledge of ATC matters.
3. Should have good pedagogical skills
4. Should have good command of English, both written and spoken.
5. Must be a member in good standing with VATSIM.
6. Must have served as Controller for at least 100 hours online before being eligible for this
function.
7. Must be recommended by the local vACC Director or Training Director.
8. Must be approved (i.e. actual recommendation issued) by several Division or Region Staff.
Termination
1. The Instructor rating will be revoked on request by the Instructor, if he wants to resign from his
duties. The Controller will be downgraded to his previously held controller rating (C1/C3).
2. The Instructor rating will be revoked if an Instructor is no longer actively taking part in the
training process upon request by the local vACC’s Director / Training Director. The Controller
will be downgraded to his previously held controller rating (C1/C3).
3. In the event of an instructor failing to comply with the general rules and regulations of VATSIM
or VATSA
4. An audit of online hours will be computed quarterly from Jan 1st of each year. Instructors who
have not logged the minimum time will be considered to be downgraded to their previously
held rating.
5. Genuine, mitigating circumstances will of course be taken into consideration.

Senior Instructor (I3)

Senior Instructors are Instructors with superior experience and knowledge, who are either involved in
The Division or Region Senior Staff and The Division or Region Training Department projects, or who are
involved in training and supervision of Instructors and Examiners. The Senior Instructor rating is only
awarded on a divisional level, there are no vACC Senior Instructors.

Duties

1. May be involved in administrative tasks related to ATC training provided by The Division or
Region
2. Assist in and carry out training directly for the division by means of ATC training Support
Department.
3. May be appointed as divisional Examiner for the Examination Department.
4. Participate as Examiner in OTS training sessions or exams for Instructor applicants.

Requirements
1. Must have superior knowledge of VATSIM and VATSA rules and regulations.
2. Must have excellent knowledge of ATC matters.
3. Must have good pedagogical skills
4. Must have good command of English, both written and spoken.
5. Knowledge of additional languages will be beneficial.
6. Must have served as an Instructor for at least one year, and must be considered active.
7. Must be a member in good standing with VATSIM.
8. Must be approved (i.e. actual recommendation issued) by majority of 4 members of senior
Regional or Division Staff.

Termination
1. The Senior Instructor rating will be revoked if an Instructor is no longer actively taking part in
the training process. The Controller will be downgraded to his previously held controller rating
(C1/C3).
2. In the event of an instructor failing to comply with the general rules and regulations of VATSIM
or VATSA.
9. Yearly audits as to INS+ activity will be conducted. A significant component of this is online time
which would be expected to be similar to that of INS however this is at the discretion of the
Training Department. Contributions will be evaluated on the whole, and the decision as to
whether an I3 should maintain his rating is subject to majority vote of 4 members of senior
Regional or Division Staff.
